On behalf of the Leszno Aero Club and Leszno and the Airfield Foundation we would like to thank all the competitors, team members, NAC’s and FAI representatives and everyone involved in the organisation of 21st FAI European Gliding Championships.
It was a challenging and exciting contest. Almost 100 pilots from more than 20 countries took part, competing in three classes: 18-metre Class, 20-metre multi-seat Class and Open Class. In the 18-metre class, the Polish pilot Łukasz Wójcik won, in the 20-metre multi-seat Class the Finns Kettunen & Sorri triumphed, while in the Open Class the winner was German Markus Frank. In the Nations Cup classification, the Dutch pilots proved to be the best. Full results can be found here.
This was another championship event at the Leszno Airport (Lotnisko Leszno). In 2021, the FAI World Glider Aerobatic Championships were held in Leszno, and a year later the FAI World Aerobatic Championships were held there. The 21st European Gliding Championships were held in cooperation with the Polish Aeroclub and the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale with the support of Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland and the City of Leszno.
Leszno Airfield is one of the most famous sport airfields in Europe, where you can find a safe area for long and fast flights (the speed record of 170 km/h on the distance of 360 km was set last year!).
Leszno Airfield (EPLS) details:
Leszno is a beautiful, medium-sized town in the southwestern part of Wielkopolska Voivodeship, just at the border with Silesia. Leszno is very easy to find on the map of Poland – it is situated halfway between the biggest cities of western Poland: Poznań and Wrocław. Important communication routes intersect here: road and rail from north to south and from west to east, making it easy to reach Leszno by car or by train.
The inhabitants of Leszno are famous for their thriftiness and love of order, but they can also have good fun – there are many outdoor events here, the largest of which are the ANTIDOTUM Airshow Leszno, the Leszno Days, the Leszno Baroque Plus Festival, the Return of the King and Leszno Flavour Gourmet Picnic.
A lot of information about Leszno – both its past and today, and especially about current events, you can find in the mobile application, available for Android and iOS. We invite you to download it, especially when you are going to our town.
